INFORMATION FOR MUSICIANS

The information on this page is intended for acts interested in playing at the venues or events organised by Kontra Roots. Contact Kev Buxton at kev@kcbworld.co.uk and include relevant web links, or let us know if you’d prefer to send a demo CD and we’ll give you a postal address.

KONTRA ROOTS CLUB

We recommend you read the general information about the club on the Kontra Roots Club page. If you’d like to be considered for a slot, please be aware that Kontra is widely regarded as one of the finest acoustic roots showcases in the UK and has a reputation second to none. Consequently, the standard is extremely high. Despite the fact that the club is non-profit making and we pay no artist fees (just expenses towards petrol) we attract the best, as performers are assured a good, knowledgeable, listening audience, top class sound, and a wonderful atmosphere. In addition, a strong performance at the club will very possibly lead to other gigs in the area. It is probable too that you’ll sell CDs, as our audiences are usually very generous. Of course, none of the above can be absolutely guaranteed, as even we have an occasional quiet night, but these are comparatively rare. I’m afraid our shoestring budget means that we can’t offer complimentary food and drink, but if you’re travelling from afar and require overnight accommodation this can usually be arranged if you give us notice.

JOULES YARD

General information about Joules Yard is on the Joules Yard page. There is a wide range of music all year round at this wonderfully quirky venue. Saturday Live @ Joules Yard runs from May till September and features a mix of the very best local folk, blues, roots and covers bands, plus some of the finest acoustic solo and duo acts from across the UK. Fees vary, but as many Saturday Live gigs are token £3 admission they tend to be on the low side, with a discretionary “top up” if it’s a busy evening. Playing at Joules though is an unforgettable experience, and the majority of acts are keen to return so demand for Saturday slots is high. There is a free meal and drinks for all musicians. Please note that most of the Saturday Live season is booked very early in the year, in January and February.

The Sunday Lunch Sessions run all year round from noon till 3pm. These feature a wide range of mainly local acoustic and occasionally electric musicians and bands. There is no fee but all musicians get a free all day breakfast and drinks. These gigs are very informal, great fun, and can be shared with other performers if desired. Pretty much anything goes!

KETTERING ARTS CENTRE

Kontra books acts for all folk roots events at the Centre. These feature a wide range of performers, from established big name acts to top class emerging artists. Headline acts will need to demonstrate that they have a following and can attract a sizeable audience.

Acts interested in performing at Cottage Concerts, Countryman Fairs and our other venues and events, should be aware that these are by invitation only.
